I'm not seeing any real malware / bad files issues at the moment. There is one thing tagged to one of the tools I had you use but I doubt that is causing the slowness. However, let's remove them all and see if that makes a difference. If you did not do so at the end of its scan, please uninstall ESET Online Scanner at this time. You can use the Control Panel 'Add / Remove Programs' or 'Programs and Features' utility to uninstall it. Next, we need to remove the tools we've used during cleaning your machine. [/a] Ensure the following is ticked: - Activate UAC
- Remove disinfection tools
- Create registry backup
- Purge system restore
- Reset system settings
[/ul] Then click Run. The program will run for a few moments and then notepad will open with a log. I recommend that you save the file to your desktop as when you close Notepad, the file will gone. Please paste the log in your next reply. Once you have the log file saved, please reboot your system to complete the clean up process. Tell me how the system is behaving now, please.

I cannot find the ESET scanner in the list of programs under "Programs and Features", but I still have the icon on my desktop and the terms of use pops up when I click on it. Does this mean it has been uninstalled and will reinstall upon clicking the icon? Should I simply delete the icon from my desktop? I ask only because I know deleting the icon is not the same as uninstalling the program in most cases, and I want to be sure I'm actually following these steps accurately.

Yes, delete the ESET that is on your desktop. It is the installer for the Online Scanner and we are done with that. After that, download and run DelFix, save the log file, reboot your system and see if the slowness is still there.

I ran delfix as instructed; here is the log: DelFix.txt (1.35 KB) The only downloaded program still remaining is Malwarebytes and a few of the .txt documents that were saved to my desktop (though most were removed). Upon restart, there was very little change. It took 1:19 before the windows logo appeared, but the desktop startup after my password entry was pretty normal. I ran a full scan with AdAware Pro yesterday and it is still showing zero problems/suspicious/quarantined/deleted files. This was the original reason I suspected malware at the beginning--between the advent of the .exe*32 processes in task manager and the virus/adware scan coming out clean I figured malware must be the culprit. Outside of performing maintenance scans with my security software I am completely clueless of what to look at or what to do, so your help and patience with this is really appreciated. I didn't think the problem would be this difficult to identify. Perhaps the most baffling aspect of this (at least to me) is the "slowness" versus the "processing". My fiance has a computer that was also custom built by the same person who built mine. Mine is actually more current, even though it is now 2 years old. His is closer to 4 years old. I checked his task manager yesterday as compared to mine just to see if there was something obviously different going on, and I was shocked to see that his task manager appears close to identically to mine, but with no lag issues--there are similar amounts of processes, 3.5-3.9 GB of memory in use, ~15% average CPU usage. From all I can tell, it's like I'm running programs that are severely out-of-date except that I'm not (at least to the best of my knowledge). This has been a very frustrating problem because it was so sudden and nothing really seems to actually "be wrong." It's affecting my ability to work AND play from my computer. Also, there has been a recent change--two days ago, I tried to log into the League of Legends game and it freezes during the patching/updating process. In the past weeks you've worked with me, I've been able to log in and play the game--sometimes more successfully than others--but I've never had this freezing happen before. I haven't been able to log in for several days now. I am sorry for the long post, I'm just trying to disclose everything I can think of in order to get to the root of the problem. Should I try a defrag?

Definitely, do a defrag. But first, turn Malwarebytes off by going to Settings > Advanced Settings and uncheck "Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware with Windows". Reboot your system and see if it responds better now.
Oh and you can delete the few log files on the desktop and / or elsewhere on your system.

Well, it turns out my computer executes a scheduled defrag every Wednesday morning, so it's in good shape in that department. The fans are clear and running freely, no obstructions, and the computer is cool to the touch.

Did you turn off the automatic loading of MBAM? Any speed difference?

I did, and that seemed to help a little. There is definitely an improvement in load time.
