Hello again Quads. You helped us before to remove Search Protect last year. Today, I came home from work, and I clicked on Google Chrome, but the internet did not open. Instead, I get an error:
Explorer.EXE
The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.
Furthermore, although I can open Internet Explorer, I find that I cannot access hotmail, Facebook, and other usual sites.
In fact, when I came to qmalwareremoval, I could not log in--Internet explorer wouldn't't w it.
I created this new account and typed this message from a mobile device.
What has happened? What do I do?

Hello. I now have access to a different computer, and I can type a bit more easily than last night's message.
It seems that Google Chrome is somehow compromised. This problem occurred in the 12 hours that I was away at work. My family uses my computer when I am away.
So, Google Chrome, my history, my favorites--I've lost access to all of it. The entire program will not pull up.
When I've logged onto Internet Explorer (an older version that needs updating), I could go to my traditional email accounts and Facebook, but logging in only somehow pulled up an error screen that said I was having connection problems. However, I found that I could access my accounts again by going to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced, and by checkmarking "use TLS 1.0" in the security settings.
I have a rough access to the Internet through Internet Explorer, and I can potentially communicate later on through my computer again when I get home late tonight/early tomorrow morning. So, if you send me instructions, I will be able to follow through with those instructions and do cut and pasting with this website one way or another.
The reason that I fear this is some sort of malware attack is due to the fact that Google Chrome has shut down, and because I could not log on to my personal accounts on various sites with the other browser.
I thank you for taking time to read this message, for your help in the past, and in general for what you do here at qmalwareremoval.

2 profiles by one user is a No I'm sorry about that, Quads. Should I try to retrieve my old password and use the old account?
(I was having trouble logging in last night, as it was with every other account I have, and that was why I created the new ID.) I will implement your instructions and let you know one way or another what happens. Thank you again for your advice. -lh

Here at this separate computer at my current location away from home, I was able to successfully log into my first account. Sorry about the confusion. I will use this account for all future correspondence. Sorry about that.

After turning off the internet and having the exe files saved on my computer, I was able to successfully "Repair" with the 2008 files.
However, when I tried to run the 2010 file, the following message popped up:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable Setup
Setup has detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to install this software. The following blocking issues must be resolved before you can install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Setup software package.
Please resolve the following:
A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine.

Something else happened that might help.
I guess I'm using Internet Explorer 8. (I've used Google Chrome this whole time.) I thought, to make internet use in the next week(s) easier, perhaps I could update my Internet Explorer. When I tried to update to Internet Explorer 9, I got an error message that read:
Wrong version of Internet Explorer installer
This version of setup doesn't support your Windows system type (32-bit/64-bit).

So, I guess at least we know what Windows system type I'm using.
