I would like to know if others know how to remove this thing called GEAR?
Here is the email they sent me
Hi,
I am writing to you to alert you of the possibility that a product you might have installed on your Windows-OS computer could have a defect that is adversely affecting the performance of your machine.
Our records show that at some point you downloaded our free Metadefender Endpoint product (which we previously called Gears). In the last week of March, we pushed out a “product detection signature” update, something we do periodically so that the application continues to provide the most accurate and up-to-date assessment of the security products installed on your machine. Unfortunately, that update had a defect that causes the application to start consuming more computer resources (like CPU or disk i/o) and possibly negatively affecting the performance of your machine.
We strongly recommend that you check to see if your Windows-OS computer is affected by this defect and take the appropriate corrective action, as outlined below.
How to know if a computer has a defective Metadefender Endpoint:
If you have Metadefender Endpoint or Gears installed on a Windows OS operated machine and the version number of the “.dll” files of the “product detection signature” are less than 4.2.371.0, then the application is potentially defective. You can find the version number of the .dll files by:
1. Opening the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\OPSWAT\OnDemand\ondemands\oesis
2. Right clicking on the columns and selecting Product Version. If Product Version is not there, then click more and find/enable Product Version, as shown in the screenshot below
When I looked I found I have a number smaller than their 4.2.371 --- so I went to sign in - no dice -- SO I emailed them -- they actually said they never heard of me --- so I reminded them THEY sent ME an email - and asked how they would know to do that if I wasn't a registered user - they stopped replying ---
The web search says it's a legit file - which resides under wa_3rd_party_host32.exe I really am nervous now - exe files and my email address gives them more power than I ever intended. I can't find this program in my add remove either - using C Cleaner isn't helping either
And solid simple solution?
Thanks
Gary
