Some aspects of my system work better now, like the mouse. I can now left click to place the cursor! Still very slow, some aspects slower. I just went to the HP forum to search for an "system restore tutorial" & the Offers4you banner popped up.
This thing is a bear! Do you have another suggestion? I really appreciate all your efforts thus far.
Edit:
Here's to you & you're family having a wonderful Mothers Day. Family is what makes it all worthwhile!

First, try resetting the Chrome User Profile >>>>Enter the keyboard shortcut (Windows key + E) to open Windows Explorer. In the Windows Explorer window that appears enter the following in the address bar. Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\ Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Locate the folder called "Default" in the directory window that opens and rename it as "Backup default." Try opening Google Chrome again. A new "Default" folder is automatically created as you start using the browser. If that fails to fix the problem, uninstall and reinstall Chrome >>>>First, download a fresh copy of the Chrome installer:64 bit systems - 64 bit here Note: Save the download file to your desktop for easy finding later. Next, uninstall Chrome using the Control Panel Remove program app:Please go to START (Windows Orb) >> Control Panel >> Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features and remove the following (if listed): Google ChromeTo do so, left clicking on the name once and then click Uninstall/Change at the bar above the list window. Follow the prompts of the uninstaller BUT please read carefully any questions it asks before answering; some uninstallers will try and deceive you into keeping the software. Last, restart your system and install Chrome: Double click on the install file on your desktop (from the First step) to run the installer. Please use Chrome after the installation and check for any problems.

Thanks debrisen, when I click Windows+E, I go to the computer panel/favorites location. If I click the start button+E, I see a Windows Explorer entry, but when I click it, it just closes. Am I doing something wrong? I'll ask my daughter also when I get home tonight. Sorry for being to ignorant about navigating my way through a computer.

Windows key is on the keyboard and looks like the version of Windows the keyboard was designed for. The key is usually in the lower left hand corner next to the ALT key.

Resetting Chrome did not work. I reinstalled it & wow, is it fast now. And the Offers4you banner appears to be gone. But I am still getting the "By eye-see" banner (which is a much smaller banner, about 1x3 inches). Any chance we can work on that one?
Is it possible to reinstall IE? Do you think IE would speed up (like chrome did) if reinstalled? Your assistance has been stellar! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
Thank you so much for all your help!
Edit:
Well, I opened IE this morning & the Offers4you banner is back again.
Edit:
Of note, when I clicked on the Offers4you info pane, it does offer an uninstall link, which has never opened. This morning I clicked the link & got the bar (1st time) telling me that it is an unsafe page/did I want to show all details. If I click "show all," I suspect it will open & I may be able to uninstall it. I'm leery of opening the link however...your thoughts.

Please renew your scan logs by following the steps below: Read Slowly and all of it.If you still have a Addition.txt log file on your desktop, please delete it now. Start FRST64 that is on your Desktop by right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator". The tool will start to run. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer. (if it does) Wait for the tool to state that it is ready to run. (The tool may have to update itself first; please let it do this.) Select Additional.txt in the Optional Scans section of FRST64. Press Scan button. It will make two logs ( FRST.txt and addition.txt) on your Desktop. Please attach the logs in your reply back. Or open the logs in notepad and copy the logs and paste back in a message as a reply. ( Ask if you don't know how to do either of these). Notes:
If your Security software blocks the running or download of FRST / FRST64, please disable the security software or make an exception for this file. FRST is updated very frequently and is safe to run but because of the frequent changes (to keep up with newest malware techniques) most Security Software does not approve of the unknown file. Right now the forum will not allow one to attach the Addition.txt file so please use wikisend.com or filedropper.com to upload the file and then post the download link here in your reply post.

I'm not seeing anything on that scan; let's move to a different viewpoint .... Download zoek.exe from here: Bleepingcomputer[/font][/b][/a] or here you can read a manual how to disable your security applications.) Doubleclick zoek.exe to start the program. Click the More Options button and select the "Do a Deep Scan" option. Close any open browsers. Click the " Run script" button and wait patiently. When finished the logfile will be opened in notepad. The zoek-results.log can also be found on your systemdrive. Please post the logfile for further review in your next comment. [/ul] Use wikisend.com or pastebin.com to post the log if you have to.
