Sorry, I've never done this before so this is a guess! I went to C:Programfiles/MSOffice.
1) Do I just right click it and choose "copy" and send it to a disc? 2) Should I do the HP updates 1st or MS updates? 3) Should I start with the Norton Suite before I do anything? (NOT CONSTAGUARD!)

(NOT CONSTAGUARD!) 1) That will 'copy' (burn to a CD if that is what you want) the C:\Program Files\MSOffice directory (and files in the directory) to wherever you tell it to copy to. BUT this is not an setup file for MSOffice so you would not be able to run MSOffice on the fresh OS installation by just coping this over. 2) IF MS updates have a Service Pack in them, do the Service Pack first. Then the HP. Then the rest of MS updates. 3) Load the Service Pack and the HP drivers updates before Norton is installed. As far as the MS Office installation goes, if you know where you can get a clean copy of the install file (the setup disk) you can always borrow the disk, copy it and return it to the owner. The only thing you have to have that is unique to you is your license key for the proper version of MS Office.

Thanks debriesn, that's how I'll procede. As far as MSOffice, I started going throuth my stuff (disc has to be somewhere) but haven't found it yet.
Edit:
Ha!!!! I found the Office installation disc!
Last question before I start:
Should I uninstall all the junk that will be installed (trial software) with the reinstall (controll panel or your programs that get everything) or do it later?

I just went through our last few pages of dialog and just had to come and make sure you understand what is going to happen before you go down this road (especially after your question about uninstalling junk before reinstalling etc. etc.).
A Factory Recovery is not just a installation of Windows; it wipes / erases / formats your hard drive and loads an image of the OS & OEM software that is at a state of being fresh out of the factory. When you first stated this system (after purchasing it) ... THAT is what you will be returning this system to by using the Factory Recovery disks.
So, if you have any personal data that you want to keep on this system, back it up before running the Factory Recovery installation.
I'm here for you and just wanted to make sure you understood what is going to happen. You'll get your machine back and it work great but it won't have anything on it but what the OEM loaded to begin with.
Any questions?

Thanks debrisen, & I do understand. I appologize for my poor symantics & my even lower level of computer knowledge. There is nothing on the computer that I want to keep except MS Office & I now have the disc to reinstall it.
When I bought this PC it came preinstalled with several software programs that I consider junk (things like AOL, Norton free trial & several others that I don't remember). I'm sure either HP &/or BestBuy have a maketing arrangement with those companies. So my thinking is that these will be reinstalled (from the recovery disc) as I do this recovery & that is what I am asking about (my other daughter's HD went out & was fixed under warranty--came back with a new HD & the extra software programs). I just hate having that stuff in my system. Now wheather my fears are unfounded is another issue. I just feel like everytime I install/uninstall something my registry suffers a bit. If these do reinstall from the recovery disc, I just want to remove them at the "best time," if there is a "best time." That's what I'm asking. Again, I appologize for my ignorance.
Edit:
Hey! The reinstall appears to have gone over without a hitch! Now to get my daughters personal infor for the set up & MS Updates. That will be a job, but hey...I'm happy.

You can check out a program called PC Decrapifier (available here from BleepingComputer.com so you know the download is clean). Also, load and run Unchecky as this will stop the unwanted adding of unwanted addon toolbars and BHOs in the browsers. Let me know how it proceeds. Sounds good so far!!

Hey debrisen, I have set Windows Update to chech for updates, letting me decide which to download & install. The first run came up with 180 recommended & 8 optional updates. I scrolled down untill I found "Security Update for MS XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430). I am going to install it now, then continue looking for any more service packs. Then I will look for any HP service packs.
I will then return to the MS Update list. You were wright, the list is daunting. Is is complicated by not appearing to have any specific organization. I can filter by name or size. Does it matter which one I choose first? I have to look at each one to see its release date. Do I need to install them chronologically, or just go down the list?
A friend of mine told me that I don't need the .NETframework updates...that they don't apply to home computer use. Is that correct?

.NET is used for many programs now; modern programs won't run without .NET4 .
You are good to do the SP installs first as they "roll up" other updates into them. You may also come across some MS updates that will not install unless other updates are done first.
Have fun and keep me updated!! lol

Yep, this is gonna take a while! I on the HP site updating the drivers now. Have only done 3 of them so far (wife has me installing the tile backsplash in the kitchen). I had to install IE11 as the HP site would not work with IE8. MS Update installed 3 Hotfixes without asking me after this (thought I had to pick which update to install--maybe a Hotfix is different?).
Wound up not needing the recovery discs at all. The HP Software -reinstalled from the partition

Hotfixes are repairs to certain updates and are usually critical.
Backsplash huh? Reminds me of the old saying "A happy wife makes a happy life." It's true too!
